What is the Mentor Brief?

Updated

A Mentor Brief is a short analysis the Mentor writes when several parts of your data point to the same problem. It names the problem, what it is costing you and the one change that does the most, then gives you an action plan with a deadline.

What the Brief reads

The Mentor reads four pillars:

  1. your goals and tasks
  2. your journal
  3. your daily reads from Today’s Read
  4. your health data, if you connected a health app

Only the pillars you use count, and more than half of them have to show a pattern before a Brief is written. A pattern is a change against your own usual range that has repeated. One missed task is not a pattern, and neither is one short night. Several due days in a row with nothing completed can be one.

What a Brief contains

A Brief reads in a fixed order:

  • The mode at the top, such as Focus Protection, and how many of your sources agreed.
  • The title, which is the ask, for example “Three initiatives, not four”.
  • Why now? says why this came up at this point.
  • What the signals say together puts the pillars side by side. Tap one to see what it found.
  • The cost is what the pattern is costing you, with the figures behind it.
  • The lever is the one change that does the most.
  • Action plan is a goal with its tasks, deadlines, priority and category, drawn as it will look in Goals.

Read it once from top to bottom before you act. The action plan answers The cost, so it makes most sense after it.
