Back up your journal to iCloud and free up space
Updated
On iPhone, your journal can sync to your own iCloud, so it is kept safe if you lose your phone. Turn it on in your Profile under Your data, then iCloud sync. Once it is on, you can also move your journal’s media off your phone to free up space.
Turn on iCloud sync
- Open your Profile: on Home, tap your profile picture at the top right.
- Under Account, tap Your data.
- Tap iCloud sync.
- Switch on Sync to iCloud.
The screen then shows a status line, such as “Up to date”, “Syncing…” or when it last synced. Your journal is encrypted in transit and stored in your own iCloud. On Your data, the line at the bottom changes from “Your journal is on this device only.” to “Your journal is backed up to iCloud.”
iCloud sync uses your iCloud storage, so keep some space free there.
Sync now, reset sync or get help
Three more rows sit on the iCloud sync screen:
- Sync data starts a sync now.
- Reset iCloud sync rebuilds your whole iCloud sync from scratch. It can take a few minutes.
- Contact support opens an email to us with the sync details filled in.
If sync stops, see Why isn’t my journal saving or syncing?
Free up space on your phone
Your data shows how much space FocusPilot uses on this phone. Tap Storage for the details. Local storage splits the space into photos, videos and voice, previews, app data and cache, and shows how much is free on your phone.
To move your journal’s photos, videos and voice memos off your phone:
- On Local storage, find Offload assets under Recommendations. Its description says how much space you would save.
- Switch it on.
Once each file is safely stored in iCloud, its copy on your phone is removed. Previews stay on your phone, and a file loads from iCloud when you open it.
Offloading needs iCloud sync. If sync is off, switching on Offload assets takes you to the iCloud sync screen first, so a file is never removed while it is the only copy.
If you switch Offload assets off again, your journal media is stored on your phone again. Check that your phone has enough free space first.
