Why isn't my journal saving or syncing?
Updated
FocusPilot keeps what you write on your phone until it is safely saved, so in most of these cases nothing is lost. An entry that has not saved yet is usually waiting for a connection, and sync usually stops because iCloud is full or you are signed out of it.
“Not saved yet · kept on this phone”
When you tap the check mark, the editor closes and FocusPilot saves the entry in the background. If it cannot reach our servers, for example without a connection, it keeps the entry on your phone and tries again on its own: after a short wait, when your connection comes back and the next time you open the app.
If those attempts do not get through, the Journal shows the entry with “Not saved yet · kept on this phone” and a Retry button.
- Check your connection.
- Tap Retry. It sends every entry that is waiting.
To read or change the entry in the meantime, tap its row. It opens in the editor exactly as you wrote it. If you see “Not saved” with “Your entry is still here. Try again in a moment.”, your text is still in front of you. Wait a moment and save again.
Journal sync is paused or shows an error
On iPhone, open your Profile (on Home, tap your profile picture at the top right), then Your data, then iCloud sync. The status line says why sync stopped:
- “Sync paused · iCloud storage full”: free up space in your iCloud storage, or add more. Then tap Sync data.
- “Not connected · Sign in to iCloud”: sign in to iCloud in your phone’s Settings. Then come back and tap Sync data.
- “Sync error · Tap to retry”: tap the line to try again. Check your connection first.
If sync stays stuck after that, tap Reset iCloud sync. It rebuilds your whole sync from scratch and can take a few minutes. If the reset fails, the screen says “The reset didn’t go through. Check your connection and try again.”
Still not working? Tap Contact support on the same screen. It opens an email to us with the sync details already filled in, such as the sync status, when it last synced and your app version.
A photo or voice note shows an empty tile
An empty tile with a small symbol means the photo, video or voice note is not on this phone right now. It usually has one of these causes:
- You offloaded it. With Offload assets on, the copy on your phone is removed once the file is safe in iCloud. Open the entry while you have a connection, and the file loads from iCloud.
- It is still uploading. A file added on another device may not have finished. Give it a few minutes with a connection.
- The file could not be loaded. Close the entry and open it again.
If the same attachment stays empty on a good connection, contact support and tell us which entry it is in.
