Change the Mentor's tone and answer length

You can set the Mentor’s tone and answer length for every chat in Preferences, or for one chat in its Mentor style sheet. A request inside a message wins for that one reply.

Set the tone and length for every chat

1. On Home, tap your picture at the top to open Profile.
2. Tap Preferences.
3. Under Mentor, set Mentor tone to Balanced, Direct or Gentle.
4. Set Answer length to Adaptive, Short or Detailed.

These apply to every chat that has no setting of its own.

Change the style of one chat

1. In the chat, tap the chip next to + in the message bar. It shows the chat’s mode, Adaptive until you change it, and opens the Mentor style sheet.
2. Choose a Mode:
   • Fast: fast and efficient.
   • Thinking: thinks longer for deeper answers.
   • Adaptive: adapts to the task.
3. Set Mentor tone and Answer length for this chat. Each starts on As in Preferences, with your account setting in brackets, so you can see what you would be overriding.
4. Use Journal in this chat to keep your journal in or out of this conversation only.

A choice made here stays with that chat until you change it. It is saved with the chat, so it is the same on another phone.

Which setting wins

From weakest to strongest:

1. your account setting in Preferences
2. the chat’s own Mentor style
3. what you ask for in a message

So “Keep it short” gets a short answer even in a chat set to Detailed, and only for that reply.
