How the weekly review and the weekly log work

Updated

The weekly review shows how much of last week you closed, by category, and what keeps slipping. The weekly log is its companion for the current week, where you tag why something was not closed. Both are in the ⋯ menu at the top left of Goals.

Open the weekly review

  1. Open the ⋯ menu at the top left of Goals.
  2. Tap Weekly review.

The row appears when last week holds something closed or missed, so it is not there in your first week. The review never opens by itself. Close it with the X.

What does the weekly review show?

The review covers last week, Monday to Sunday:

  • Hit rate: every task and goal you closed counts as a hit, and every one whose deadline passed while it was open counts as a miss. The line under it gives the count, for example 19 of 24 closed.
  • By category: the same count for Professional, Personal and Health. Inbox tasks have no category and get a row of their own.
  • Patterns: work under one goal that went unclosed two or more times last week, and any reason you tagged on the same goal in two or more weeks.

A part with nothing to report does not appear.

Tag what slipped in the weekly log

  1. Open the ⋯ menu and tap View log. The row appears once this week holds something closed or missed.
  2. The Weekly log shows this week’s Hit rate, how it compares with last week, and two rows: Closed and Not closed.
  3. Open Not closed and tag a miss with Underestimated time, Deprioritized or Wrong day for it.

Tags are optional. One tag says little, but the same reason on the same goal in two or more weeks shows up as a pattern in the weekly review.

Turn the review into next week’s plan

Start with the patterns: move work that keeps landing on the wrong day, and give longer durations to work you underestimate. If a goal cannot get time next week, pause it.

The Goals and weekly review guide and weekly planning walk through the whole routine.
