What is the Focus Score?
Updated
The Focus Score is one number from 0 to 100 for one day: where your effort went and what you closed. You find it as the dial at the top of the Insights tab.
The four parts
The score measures a day in four parts, shown as capsules under the dial:
- Priority: how much of the work you closed went to your priority goals.
- Plan: how much of what you planned for today you closed.
- Deep Work: the minutes you protected with a focus session.
- Clarity: the clarity you reported in Today’s Read.
Each capsule’s outline fills to its own value. How each part is measured and weighted is in How the Focus Score is calculated.
“So far today” and settled days
While the day is still running, the dial says so far today and the number can still move. The day settles once it is over, at 4:00 on your phone’s clock. Settled days are what the trend and the averages are built from.
The five bands
Once at least two parts have been measured, the dial also names a band:
| Score | Band |
|---|---|
| 90 to 100 | Surgical |
| 70 to 89 | Locked In |
| 50 to 69 | Engaged |
| 30 to 49 | Splitting |
| 0 to 29 | Scattered |
With only one part measured, the dial shows the number with no band.
Open the score sheet
Tap the dial to open the Focus Score sheet for the whole score, or tap a capsule to open it on that part. The sheet shows each part’s value, the weight it carried today and the points it added.
Why there is no score yet
When no part can be measured, the dial shows no number and one line says why:
- “Set a goal. Then there is something to measure.” You have no goals yet. See How to add a goal or task by hand.
- “Nothing is scheduled for today.” No task is planned for today and nothing has been closed or measured.
- “Your day is planned. The score starts with your first closed task.” Tasks are scheduled, and none is closed yet.
Closing a task, running a focus session of 5 minutes or more, or answering Today’s Read each gives the day a score, from that part.
