Why does my Focus Score look wrong?

Updated

The Focus Score only uses what it can measure, so a part that was not measured, a day that is still running or work on lower-priority goals can make it look off. To check, tap the dial on Insights to open the score sheet. It lists each part with its value, its weight today and the points it added.

A part was not measured

A part with no data shows a dash and “Not counted today”. The other parts share its weight, so one strong part can carry more of the score than you expect.

  • Clarity is your Today’s Read answer to how clear your thinking is. Skip the read, and Clarity is left out.
  • Plan is left out until you close a scheduled task. Work you close that was not scheduled for today does not raise Plan, and the sheet notes it as closed off your plan.

The day is still running

The dial says “so far today”, and the score moves as the day goes on.

How each part is weighed

  • Priority weighs goals by their priority. A task on a Priority 1 goal counts in full, one on a Priority 2 goal at 60 percent, and one on any other goal at 15 percent. A day of work on lower-priority goals scores low here.
  • Tasks without a duration count as 30 minutes once any closed task has one.
  • Deep Work counts the Timer and the Stopwatch only, in sessions of 5 minutes or more. The Counter and Audio tools do not count.

The points don’t add up

Each row is rounded on its own, so the points can add up to one more or one less than the score.

The full calculation is in How the Focus Score is calculated and the Insights and Focus Score guide.
