Who can read your journal?

Updated

Only you. Nobody at your company or anywhere else can open your entries, and your journal is never used for advertising or sold. The Mentor reads it only through switches you control.

When the Mentor reads your journal

Three switches decide it, all under Profile, then Preferences:

Switch What it allows
Share Journal with AI The Mentor actions in the editor (Go deeper, Help me reflect and the rest) send the entry you are working on.
Journal in Mentor chat Your check-ins and journal signals can shape the Mentor’s replies in chats. Entries are not quoted unless it clearly helps.
Journal for the Mentor Brief On by default. The Mentor reads the text of your entries from the last 14 days to find themes that come up more than once. The text is not stored.

Turn a switch off and that use stops. Writing and saving entries never depend on them.

What AI providers do with an entry

When an entry is sent to one of FocusPilot’s AI providers (OpenAI or Anthropic), the provider does not use it to train its models and keeps it for a limited time, generally up to 30 days, for security and abuse monitoring. The details are in the privacy policy.

Backups

On iPhone, if you turn on iCloud sync, a backup of your journal goes to your own iCloud account. See Back up your journal to iCloud and free up space.
