What is the Mentor in FocusPilot?
Updated
The Mentor is the chat inside FocusPilot that knows your work. It answers from what you already keep in the app, so you can skip the background and ask the question, and it can create goals and journal entries for you.
What the Mentor does
The Mentor reads your active goals, the tasks due today, your recent Today’s Reads, how your last days went and your past Mentor Briefs. If you allow it, it also reads your journal check-ins and a summary of your health data. The full list is in What does the Mentor know about you?
Ask it what you would ask a coach who has seen your week:
- What should I cut this week?
- What deserves my time today?
- Help me prepare for tomorrow’s board meeting.
It can also act for you. Ask it to create a goal or a journal entry and it sets one up and shows you the result. You can send it a document, a photo or a voice message, and you can save any reply as a goal or an entry.
The Mentor’s answers can be wrong, and they are not medical advice. You can report a reply that is off; see Save a Mentor reply as a goal or journal entry.
How to start a Mentor chat
There are four ways in:
- Tap the + at the right end of the tab bar and choose Ask Mentor.
- On Home or Insights, tap the Mentor bar just above the tab bar. Its line changes each time you come back, for example “Ask Mentor anything”.
- On Home, tap Talk to Mentor in your For today list.
- In Today’s Read, Plan My Day opens a chat with a plan for your day already written. See What does Plan My Day do?
The shortcuts in a new chat
A new chat opens with a short greeting and a row of shortcuts. Swipe the row sideways to see all seven:
- Create a goal
- Create a journal entry
- Plan my week
- Review a goal
- Reflect on today
- Think through a decision
- Prepare for tomorrow
A tap sends that request as your first message. The + next to the message field has two more: Bring me up to speed asks where you stand, and What’s next? asks for the next thing to do.
